about the master programme

A Multidisciplinary Erasmus Mundus Master for a Sustainable Future

The Renewable Energy and Sustainable Construction (RESCO) master programme is a two-year joint degree funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Programme.
It brings together leading European universities to deliver a multidisciplinary curriculum that bridges renewable energy technologies and sustainable building design.

Rectangle 25

This innovative program aims to train future experts capable of meeting the energy and environmental challenges of the 21st century.

Objectives

The RESCO Erasmus Mundus pursues several strategic objectives:

  • Strengthen academic cooperation within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
  • Increase the international dimension of higher education through multicultural and transnational student pathways.
  • Develop synergies between teaching, research, and innovation, in collaboration with industrial partners and European alliances.
  • Meet current and future labor market needs in the fields of sustainable construction and renewable energies.
  • Improve student employability by combining technical skills, international experience, and an understanding of societal issues.

Programme structure

The RESCO program combines the disciplines of civil engineering and industrial engineering for a new approach to sustainable construction and the use of renewable energies.

Through this innovative training program, students will acquire a solid foundation in civil engineering, deepen their knowledge of sustainable construction and renewable energies, and then develop practical skills in a laboratory or industrial setting.

INSA Rouen Normandie – Central hub for RESCO seminars and joint activities

INSA Rouen Normandie will serve as a key meeting point for the RESCO consortium. Although students will not reside on this campus, they will travel to Rouen for several shared academic activities.

A key meeting point for the seminars

INSA Rouen will notably host:

  • the end-of-semester seminar after the 1st semester, gathering all students following their mobility in Budapest;
  • the end-of-semester seminar after the 3rd semester, bringing together first- and second-year students, teachers and associated partners.

These seminars include academic exchanges, meetings with professionals, and consortium-wide discussions.

Students will also participate in additional joint events organised at INSA Rouen (workshops, conferences, networking sessions) and will have access to the school’s facilities during their visits. Although the students are based in Le Havre during the third semester, travel to Rouen is easy and convenient, with the two cities located just one hour apart by train.

4 master’s degrees from 4 different European countries

Upon completion of the RESCO programme, students will be awarded four master’s degrees from four different European countries, including one jointly accredited degree from Université Le Havre Normandie (ULHN) and INSA Rouen Normandie.

The awarded diplomas are:

  • MSc in Structural Engineering – Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), Hungary
  • Master in Sustainable Construction & Energy Efficiency – Universidade da Coruña (UDC), Spain
  • MSc in Sustainable Built Environment – University of Minho (UMinho), Portugal
  • Master in Civil Engineering, specialization in Renewable Energy & Civil Engineering – jointly accredited by Université Le Havre Normandie (ULHN) and INSA Rouen Normandie, France

In addition, all RESCO graduates will receive a single joint diploma supplement, listing all completed courses with their respective ECTS credits and dates of completion.

This joint supplement ensures full transparency of the academic pathway and facilitates the international recognition of the RESCO qualification, both for professional opportunities and further academic pursuits.

Careers in industry, within public institutions, government service and more

Graduates of the RESCO programme are highly qualified professionals equipped to contribute to the regional, national, and international advancement of renewable energy and sustainable construction.

This two-year master’s degree aims to train engineering technologists capable of taking leadership roles in addressing global sustainability challenges.

Most RESCO graduates are expected to pursue careers in industry or within public institutions and government services. Those wishing to continue in academia will be strongly encouraged to engage in original research at the PhD level.

Potential career paths include:

  • Project management positions within renewable energy technology companies (manufacturers or installers), covering feasibility studies, civil and environmental engineering, and construction phases.
  • Research and Development departments of renewable energy manufacturers.
  • Technical support or production supervision roles within energy production companies.
  • Engineering positions in small and medium-sized enterprises specializing in renewable energy systems for private consumers (solar thermal and photovoltaic systems, geothermal, small-scale wind, etc.).
  • Roles within design offices, construction firms, or local municipalities focused on sustainable building and energy efficiency projects.
