A Coruña city

A Coruña is a vibrant coastal city in the Galicia region of north-western Spain. With about 250,000 inhabitants, it offers an excellent balance between seaside living and urban comfort. The city is famous for its Atlantic beaches, lively cultural scene, and welcoming atmosphere. Landmarks such as the Tower of Hercules (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the scenic waterfront promenade make it one of Spain’s most charming student destinations.

Thanks to its moderate living costs and strong academic environment, A Coruña is an ideal place for international students. The city’s size makes it easy to explore by foot or bike, and its social life is centred around its many cafés, parks, and music festivals.

Housing

UDC assists incoming international students through its International Relations and Mobility Office (ORI), which helps secure student housing. Several accommodation options are available:

  • University residences, such as Residencia Elvira Bao, Rialta, or Siglo XXI, offer furnished rooms with study areas and meal plans.
  • Private accommodation — students may choose to rent shared apartments or studios in the city centre. The Erasmus Student Network (ESN Coruña) provides listings and practical help to find housing.

Visa and Arrival

For non-EU students, the visa obtained for the first country of study (Hungary) remains valid for the entire duration of the RESCO programme under EU Directive 2016/801 (Students and Researchers). This “Student – Mobility Programme Visa” allows you to study and reside in Spain without applying for a new visa.

Upon arrival at UDC, the International Relations Office will handle the notification of your mobility to Spanish immigration authorities. No additional application is required.

EU students do not need a visa to study in Spain. However, if staying longer than 90 days, they must register locally (Certificado de registro de ciudadano de la UE).
